Art Cafe Help

  • For any help with The Art Cafe (how to post, how to reply, how to post images, etc) please check out this post: How Do I....?

Quick Tips

  • At the top of your Dashboard, right underneath the main menu, you will find a line saying: Pick up where you left off: ...... Use this link to go straight to where you last were inside the Art School.
  • Underneath every lesson you will find small icons: a check mark, a book mark and a star icon. Click the check mark when you finish a course or lesson and the system will remember which material you have done and where you need to go next.  Use the star or bookmark icons for your favourite lessons and find them again on your Dashboard under 'My Content' (scroll down).
  • Ask Sophie if anything is not clear!
  • If you want to post multiple images in The Art Cafe, then expand your post into an article and you will be able to add as many images as you like.
  • The Art School offers a lot of material: choose what you want to do next and don't get overwhelmed. Take your time and focus on your chosen course. It is fine to skip a workshop or a course. You would not eat everything on the menu of a restaurant either.
  • Post ideas and suggestions for the school in The Art Cafe!

FAQ

Find your question in the Frequently Asked Questions!

Where can I find the current workshop?

A link to the current workshop is always right at the top of you Dashboard. You can also go to the Workshops page and find it at the top there. Just  click ‘enter’ or ‘join’ and you’re on the workshop page. You will find the daily lessons in the right sidebar. If you arrive on Monday, you will only see the Monday lesson there.  Do unlock the Workshop forum Studio via the key button so you will be able to post your work, get notifications, etc.

I want feedback on my painting

Course and workshop assignments should be posted inside the  course/workshop forums (they are called Studios) where Sophie and your  fellow students will provide encouragement and feedback.

For work that is not part of a course or workshops, please just post in the Cafe and explain a little bit about your piece; materials, size, vision, problems, etc. and make sure you ASK for feedback.

Is there a materials list?

I do not prescribe a specific set of materials in my courses. I believe that you should use what suits you best. There is no point in literally copying someone else's favourite colours and brushes. Most courses and workshops will have some notes on the materials required though. If you have any questions about the materials needed for a course, or you are just not sure what to get, just let me know and I’ll give you some suggestions.

How do I get feedback on my course assignment?

Underneath every lesson, you will find the access key button, which will unlock the private private sub-forum for you. Click the key button and you'll be in the right place to post your work!

What is the difference between the Cafe and the School?

The Art School is the website where all courses are based, registration and account info is held, etc. This is where you are now. The Art Cafe is our community or forum. This is on a separate website.

How do I access the community (the Cafe)?

The Art Cafe is our online private community (or forum). It is only visible and accessible to members of the Art School. You can access it via the button on the ‘Community Tour’ page, or via the access key buttons underneath many of the course lessons and workshops. Look out for the key!

Help, I cannot login!

Double check your password and username. Make sure you are not accidentally using your login detail for The Art Cafe. You can click ‘forgot my password’ to reset your password. If all fails, just contact Sophie who can reset your password for you, after which you can change it to anything you want.

How do workshops work?

A workshop is a course that starts and ends on fixed dates and is semi-live. In a workshop we work together in a group, on a specific theme. For example we might be working on a portrait in oils. Together we go through the steps and stages, sharing out work along the way.

Workshops usually last 5 days.

Every morning I will publish a video lesson after which you can get on with your painting project. Every day everyone posts their progress in the private community studio for feedback and support from Sophie and your fellow students.

We'll work on various topics, broken down into 5 days, 5 video lessons. The class dynamic is strong in the community where everyone goes through the same stages.

The community will stay open for one week after the workshop ends, after which it will close and be removed.

The video lesson remain accessible in the Workshop Archive.

For more info and a list of upcoming workshops, check out the workshop page.
